Logitech Keyboard Cordless Desktop iTouch

• Classical keyboard and mouse cannot probably astonish anyone anymore - the wireless devices are sticking more and more in people´s mind. This article should introduce a kit containing a cordless keyboard and a cordless mouse made by the Logitech company, which is always bringing new and new innovations, technologies and solutions for the input devices. Now, the radio technology becomes a real hit. This technology does not require a direct visibility of the device and the receiver..

Compact RF Receiver

• The receiver contains cables with terminals for connecting the mouse and the keyboard to USB port or to PS/2 by help of a reduction. The terminals and the reductions are equipped with little symbols of mouse and keyboard, which avoids possible confusion. The reductions are additionally distinguished by a standard color code (PC 99 System Design Guide).

• To the radio signal reach you can also add the cable's length. Who might think the mentioned two-meter reach is not enough, need not be afraid - the reach we got in our test was 8m from the receiver. The reach can differ and is dependent on the particular conditions, device placing and barriers (especially stout walls - thinner walls do not obstruct!). Over against the infrared technology the visibility of the transmitter and the receiver is not necessary here.

• The keyboard needs classical batteries, the mouse needs the smallish ones (lower weight and much space for the inner electronics).

• The keyboard's pad is removable, which will be especially valued by such users who travel a lot with their keyboards.

• The multimedia keys lie in 3 fields: 1. a button for switching off the computer, 2. multimedia buttons for handling the multimedia players; a button called Mute is extra but useful here and is designed to switch on and off the sound. (I successfully tested the buttons with two programs - Winamp and Windows media Player and with an exemplary SW - Realplayer), 3. Internet keys enabling programming by help of the iTouch program.

• When you press any of the multimedia buttons you will see a brief description on your screen. If you do not like or do not need this function you can remove it in the iTouch configuration by unpicking the "Show on-screen key effect" option.

Missing LED diodes

• The LED diodes that signalize the pressed keys such as Num Lock, Caps Lock or Scroll Lock are missing on this keyboard - it´s important because of the batteries. Solution: signaling under Windows by help of appropriate SW or signal diodes placed on the radio receiver (on another wireless keyboards).

After a little move with the mouse cursor you can see a text description. 

After a single click you will see the whole graphic panel, after a double click you will get configuration window of the iTouch program already known from the Deluxe keyboard 

Settings and iTouch SW

• Besides the classical configuration menus for internet keys programming you will find here an important menu called Cordless that displays the battery power, enables adding and removing the signaling of LED diodes and contains the Connect button for checking of the connection. 

• When you press the Connect button you are asked for pressing the Connect button on the connected device (it is on every cordless device made by Logitech, also on our tested keyboard and mouse. The same function of the configuration button carries out the Connect button on the radio receiver.)

 - by pressing the mouse button a message about successful mouse connection test will appear. 

Mouse settings 

• After the installation of the original drivers the mouse settings gain some more possibilities: 

• Quick Setup - options for an overview of the setup buttons with the possibility of running a guide for easier key setup. The Buttons card serves for more detailed key settings. The Cordless card has the same function as the one on the keyboard. 
  

The WebWheel function added to the middle button (wheel) makes the work with Internet much easier. 
 

Briefly

• The keyboard deserves our admiration and we can really recommend it. Those users who do not mind the price c. 4200Kc (c. $100), will be fascinated by the freedom and independence on cables.

• Changing batteries and higher weight could mean a disadvantage for somebody. But in weight there is not such a difference - this 110-gram mouse vs 100-gram Genius Netscroll+ mouse and this 1-kilo keyboard vs 0,7-kilo USB keyboard Chicony KU-2971.

• Some users will miss the optical cordless mouse, it is also possible. Unfortunately, the price is still relatively high (c. 2600Kč). The problem is that the optical technologies require a high energy consumption of the batteries. Solution: using of quality milking cells; some mice are also equipped with a charger in which the mouse is put when not using.
