The name of the tape is derived from its width of 1/4" (6.4 mm). The tapes can be divided into Minicartridges and Data Cartridges having dimensions of 3.5" or 5.25" respectively. Depending on the length and properties of the tape and drive, the capacity ranges from dozens of MB up to several GB.
