How to identify the current Windows version?
Starting from the command line or through "Run" in the Start menu.

2. "System Properties"
Apart from the Windows version, you will also find the Service Pack version here,
along with processor and RAM information, or occasionally information about the manufacturer.
You will not find the General tab in System Properties in Windows Vista. If you use sysdm.cpl

3. If using classical Start menu, you are navigated by the slide-out menu:
(Only in case you are using classical Start menu. In Vista/2003/XP, the new Start menu is setup as default)

Windows components: winmsd(msinfo32), dxdiag
For command line: ver.exe, systeminfo.exe,
diagnostic programs by third-party manufacturers: Sandra (3B Software), AIDA, Everest (Lavalys)
