Description of the Keyboard and some tips for using

Keyboard

1 - Alphanumeric keyboard

Classical alphabetic characters and letters used on typewriters.
Tab (Tabulator) - In text editors used as a tabulator. In file managers and some other programs for moving in windows.
Caps Lock - Constant switching between writing capital and small letters. For switching between the functions of symbol keys the Shift key is used. There is a Caps Lock diode in the upper right corner of the keyboard which indicates if the Caps Lock is on or off.

Alt (Alternate) - in combination with another key press it adds an alternative function to other keys (Shorcuts). - The function and the combination of keys differ according to a running application or program that uses the particular combination. A typical example is starting menus of the current program, e. g. Alt + F for displaying of the File menu. Of course, in other programs you will find another shortcuts specific for the program , e. g. in ACDSee Ctrl + N to open a new window.....
Ctrl (Control) - the same function as the Alt key has - it adds an alternative function to other keys.
Enter - Confirmation of commands, sending information, confirmation of entries... In text documents - shift onto the next line.
Backspace - Key for deleting letters in text documents; when pressed, it always deletes just one character left from the cursor's position.
Shift -Temporary switching between writing capital or small letters. Changing key functions (e. g., Shift + § is !)
Ctrl + Alt - Variety of functions in combination with another key - the functions differ according to particular applications.

2 - Function keys

ESC (Escape) - for ending an action or program. In some applications it serves for displaying a configuration menu.
ESC - Ending an activity or a program
F1 - Usually calling the Help
F2-12 - Different functions according to program

3 - Control keys

Cursor keys - For moving in text or games. In text it is always one letter or one line in the chosen direction.
Print Screen - In MS DOS it prints current printer listing on the screen
Pause - Pausing the program activity, listing (according to particular programs and DOS commands)
Scroll Lock - key influencing cursor's behavior in some programs, when "rolling". In recent PCs and programs it is used and works only rarely.

Control keys for reading and editing texts

Insert - Switching between editing and overwriting.
Delete - Deleting the character on the left cursor side. Deleting of the marked parts of the document. In the Explorer deleting of the marked files or folders. In Outlook deleting of the marked messages.
Home - Back to the beginning of the line or document.
End - Jump on the end of the line or document.
Page Up - Move one page up.
Page Down - Move one page down.

4 - Numeric keyboard

For recording numeric data or in off position to move in text or in games using cursor keys.
Num lock - Numbers on the numeric keyboard on or off - In case the position is off the keys are used as cursor keys. - There is a pilot-light above the numeric keyboard that enables to check if the numeric keyboard is on or off.

QWERTY or QWERTZ?

Czech, English or another distribution of the characters on the keyboard can be very different. The main difference is position of Z and Y keys. First 6 letters in the second line tell us if it is Czech (QWERTZ) or English QWERTY) keyboard.
Another differences between Czech and English keyboard you can find in another Czech characters and letters and special characters as @, !, ~, | and some others. Therefore it is sometimes necessary to use for some characters switching over the keyboard or writing using ASCII code

4 characters on one key

Each key can cover 4 characters, 2 for Czech and 2 for English keyboard. For example the table that follows:

Writing characters using ASCII code

Each character has its own indication in ASCII code, in combination with Alt key and character code written on the numeric keyboard it is possible to write desired character.

Problems with national settings

In keyboards option there is not keyboard that you need - It is necessary to install it. It is possible using control panels and Keyboard properties. (Add)
After system start it is always necessary to choose the other keyboard - Necessary to choose the most frequently used keyboard as starting (Set up as starting)

Desired keyboard is missing in installation option - It is necessary to install the Multilanguage support in Windows installation.

Date in the system is not written in the right language and format. - for local setup a wrong language were chosen. (Fault is not in the keyboard settings, but in national environment setting)
